Mediterranean monk seal sightings in Israel
The recent increase in documented sightings along the Israeli coud be interpretate as residual fragments of a widely distributed population once frequenting the coasts of the entire Levantine Sea. Anotner possible explanation is the recovery of the Levantine Mediterranean Monk Seal population .
The adoption of new fishing regulations that stops trawl‐fishing north of Dor, the extension of Rosh HaNikra‐Achziv MPA and the presence of a limited‐entry zone in the Israel border, could provide sufficient protection to allow a slow recovery of the species in northern Israel.
